UV ALERT

Beiersdorf, the global skin care company, has pin-pointed the optimum amount of sunscreen that should be worn, and discovered that most people do not use enough product for adequate protection.
Using an infrared imaging spectrometer, the equipment works on a colour scale: green represents optimal UV cover; yellow shows insufficient UV cover; and red indicates there is potential danger due to a lack of protection. Results show that we use between 25 to 33pc of the required amount of sunscreen. The optimal amount of sunscreen is between 7 to 8 teaspoons to provide full body coverage for the average person.
Coppertone has a free iPhone application, MyUVAlert, that helps choose sun protection – and it also gives reminders as when to reapply.
MyUV Alert encourages correct usage of sun protection, and features include product profiles, personal recommendations, sun care protection tips, calculation of UV forecasts, and reapplication reminders that are modified to activities, such as after swimming. MyUVAlert can be used with both iPhone and iPod Touch.
