Women buy 62lb of clothes a year and own at least 20 garments they never wear, according to environmental journalist Lucy Siegle. In her new book, To Die For: Is Fashion Wearing Out the World?, facts and figures based on research conducted at Cambridge University include that the average female owns four times the amount of clothes today than she did in 1980, and women are expected to spend STG £133,640 in a lifetime on fashion.
